Distributed onboarding

Distributed onboarding is the process of joining a remote team, where nobody learns by osmosis or by asking the person at the next desk. It relies on entry documentation, explicit goals for the first ninety days and a named person to bring questions to.

Much of your success in a remote role is decided here. With no corridor or coffee machine, the information absorbed effortlessly in an office must be actively sought. The first ninety days work better with small, visible deliveries than with a long period of silent observation.
